Or maybe you're stuck in the mid s and just don't know what to do next. We're here to help. This story originally appeared in September , but we've republished it in lieu of Destiny 2's PC release this week. First, a quick explanation. There are two different forms of progression in Destiny 2. The first, levels, are simple enough: You'll go from 1 to 20 just by shooting aliens and completing the main story. By Vince Ingenito [Editor's Note: We've been posting our impressions of Destiny since September 3rd. Our scored review was posted on September 18, It attempts to weave threads from many popular genres together into one interconnected tapestry, but your experience will depend entirely upon which of those threads you tug on hardest.
Exit Theatre Mode At the very least, it provides blistering firefights and brilliantly crafted worlds to have them in. In fact, the exceptional caliber of its moment-to-moment gameplay is what partially excuses the fact that it never quite realizes its grand design. For as fun as it is, Destiny just doesn't fully commit to all of its disparate parts, making it simultaneously many different things, and none of them at all. Bungie has a history of excellent world-building, and Destiny is a powerful expression of that excellence.
From the moment your AI companion wakes you from your long slumber in the shadow of the colossal wall around Old Russia, the world of Destiny feels grand.
Destiny 2 review
In the sequel to Bungie's popular shared-world shooter, the Guardians of Earth have finally met their match with a new villain who's got his eyes on The Traveler. Our heroes, with their powers stripped away and all their gear destroyed, are pushed back to square one and have to relearn what it means to be a true Guardian of the Light. Though it's sad to see our valuable Exotics fade into the ether, this turns out to be a blessing, as the next adventure for our characters will bring new challenges, new rewards, and an even greater feeling of satisfaction when succeeding in the next big battle.
Though the general grind in Destiny 2 is the same as in the previous game, there are a number of major differences.
This week, Bungie found time to explain the situation better, saying Destiny 2 actually improves the situation from Destiny 1 by using dedicated servers for some things - and peer-to-peer still in others.
Destiny 2 Eater of Worlds Raid Lair How to prepare and what you need to know about the Destiny 2 Leviathan raid As with the likes of Vault of Glass and Wrath of the Machine with the previous game, the Raid offers challenges and rewards unlike anything else in the game. Here's ways to prepare and things to know about Leviathan: Getting as close to max Power level will help as much as possible since Leviathan's recommended Light level is In our experience, you can get away with some players in the lower range provided you have some players on average or higher than recommended, though by the end you'll want to have a few levels up for the final encounters so they can stay alive and do more damage.
Similarly, don't worry about classes too much. While certain classes and their abilities can be useful - the Hunter void class can go invisible or tether enemies for damage phases, for example - as with previous Raids on Normal mode there isn't much that depends on a specific class or sub-class. That said, if you haven't already it's worth unlocking all three sub-classes to give you as many abilities as possible for both offence and defence.

Easy gear management Moving your weapons and armor between characters and your vault was an incredible ballache in the original game, which initially meant a trip to the Tower social space every single time you wanted to shift an item over. Just authorize the DIM site with Bungie and you can then drag and drop any eligible equipment using your mouse. Changes will instantly be reflected in-game, and you can also create and save detailed loadouts.
For players running multiple toons it's absolutely invaluable when you need a particular exotic weapon in a pinch. It's available on iTunes. Don't worry about losing your precious stuff though, the Destiny API is robust and secure to the point where I've see no serious complaints about things going missing. DIM's drag and drop interface makes swapping gear a breeze. The best LFG site to find people to play with Destiny 2 doesn't include matchmaking for its hardest activities as standard because, well, people suck, and being randomly teamed up with xXBlazinAllDay69Xx doesn't necessarily make for a smooth experience.
Instead players who want to complete activities like the weekly Nightfall Strike or Leviathan raid need to rely on their existing friends list or hit up a third party 'looking for group' LFG site.
Advancement in the game focuses on obtaining progressively more powerful gear, with minimal reliance on other players to progress. Game Modes Destiny features several cooperative and competitive game modes. For a complete list, see the Activities category.
The Hive use superior numbers to overwhelm their opponents in close quarters while more elite units attack from a distance.
Comments Shares Activision has successfully filed a patent designed for use in multiplayer matchmaking systems. In short, it's an idea to engender envy at teammates' or opponents' gear through the matchmaking algorithm itself. Here's the abstract from the patent, granted today after its filing two years ago: The system may include a microtransaction arrange matches to influence game-related purchases. A junior player may wish to emulate the marquee player by obtaining weapons or other items used by the marquee player.
It has not been implemented in-game. It's also not a reactionary move on Activison's part, as the patent took two years to go through. Still, with resentment for loot boxes and microtransactions at an all-time high, the timing is unfortunate for the publisher. Here's the bit on microtransaction matchmaking detailed later on: Similarly, the microtransaction engine may identify items to be promoted, identify marquee players that use those items, and match the marquee players with other players who do not use those items.
In this manner, the microtransaction engine may leverage the matchmaking abilities described herein to influence purchase decisions for game-related purchases.

That means you will never again suffer a host migration during your Raid attempt or Trials match.

Sturm Why we love it: At a base level Sturm is just a great hand cannon. The extended barrel gives it a longer range than similar guns, and the extended mag lets you blast away for longer although is countered by a slower reload. Energy weapon kills also boost its precision damage until you reload. However, the real bonus here is that kills with Sturm will give you extra energy weapon ammo.
It's partnered with the exotic and will specifically reload it and it alone when you get kills with it.
